Solar have recently completed a large project at Pro Cathedral in the Clifton area of Bristol. The client, Student Castle who we have previously completed work for in Cardiff embarked on a grand £12,000,000 development to transform a grade II listed Cathedral building into luxury student accommodation. In addition to the conversion of the cathedral building, two new tower blocks were constructed adjacent in order to provide a modern feel to the traditional backdrop of the existing architecture.
During this development Solar worked alongside building contractor VINCI construction, who were responsible for transforming the build and interior fit out company OEP in order to create the perfect luxury living space for students.
Solar installed system 40 blackout roller blinds throughout all bedrooms in the new build blocks as well as the Pro Cathedral itself. These blinds looked great within the stylish ‘pod’ accommodation, but also provided the functionality necessary to blackout sunlight from bedroom areas – ideal for sleep and study spaces.
Blackout pleated blinds were installed into the skylight roof windows in the cathedral in order to prevent light seepage into the bedrooms at night. These spring tensioned systems provided a great solution to the awkward shapes and sizes of roof windows, whilst maintaining the modern feel to the living spaces.
Solar was proud to be involved with such an unusual high quality project and it was refreshing to see such a high standard living space for students in a notoriously vibrant metropolitan city.
