Solar recently installed a large commercial awning at the Robin Hood Pub in the Canton area of Cardiff, which is part of the Enterprise Group. Solar teamed up with CP construction to fix the awning to a re-rendered parapet wall at the front of the pub with the intention of adding a new feature to the entrance.

The product chosen to achieve this was a classic cassette awning from German manufacturers Weinor. A fully cassetted option provided extra protection, ideal for an awning that is wall mounted within a commercial setting.

The awning was RAL colour matched to the front and signage of the pub, with Fir Green proving an ideal choice to continue the Robin Hood theme.

Spanning over 10 metres in width, with a projection of 3.5 metres the unit provides the pub with a large shaded area perfect for drinks on the patio area or alfresco dining, whilst also doubling up as a sheltered smoking area for customers.

Radio controlled LED lighting units built into the awning itself provide increased functionality too, as this space can now be utilized throughout the evening as well as in daylight hours. RTS technology from Somfy provides operational flexibility, with Telis 4 RTS handsets allowing remote controlled use of the awning on the go.

Wind sensors were also fitted to ensure that the awning retracts itself during inclement weather, protecting both the awning itself and the customer’s investment from damage.
